Halifax Community Church is a community of believers. What does that mean, the word community? We believe that together in fellowship we grow closer to God and one another. The bible speaks about iron sharpening iron. We believe that together we grow stronger. We are a community of believers.
Halifax Community Church strives to be a church without walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. Halifax Community Church makes an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see our city changed.
Halifax Community Church highly values our relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship, and ultimately growing closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.
Submission to Christ: Am I acting in ways that are consistent with Christ in the Scriptures?
Compelling Unity: Am I open to the Holy Spirit, leading and acting in ways that value all people and contribute to the unity of the church?
Responsive Living: Am I increasingly investing all areas of my life for the glory of God?
Growing Relationships: Am I growing in my relationship with God and connecting with His people?
The Global Methodist Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ and spread scriptural holiness across the globe.
Jesus Christ is God incarnate as man, and He was both fully God and fully human (Luke 24:39, John 1:1, John 1:18, Romans 9:5, Colossians 1:19, Colossians 2:9). He was born of a virgin, Mary, and conceived by the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:18-20, Luke 1:34-35). He lived a perfect and sinless life in order to be a holy and worthy sacrifice. (John 15:10, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 9:26, 1 Peter 3:18, 1 John 3:5). He was tempted as we are tempted, He suffered as we have suffered, yet He did not fall into sin. (Hebrews 2:18, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:26). He came to serve and not to be served (Philippians 2:5-11).
Jesus was betrayed, and crucified on the cross where He died. (Matthew 27:27-30, Mark 15:24, Luke 23:26-49, John 19:16-37). Jesus’ life was not taken from Him by any one, He gave it as a willing sacrifice for everyone (John 10:18). Three days later Jesus rose from the dead, conquering sin and death and showing His power over both. (Matthew 28:1-20, Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-53, John 20:1-23, 1 Corinthians 15:20, Ephesians 1:19-20, 1 Peter 1:3). After He rose from the dead He was on earth for 40 days before He ascended into Heaven (Luke 24:50-51, Acts 1:9-11). Jesus will return one day to rule and reign forever, and take those who follow Him to live in the presence of God for eternity. (Matthew 25:31-46, John 14:2-3).
In one God, Creator of the universe, who exists in three divine persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit; three persons, one substance.
(Matthew 3:16-17, 1 Peter 1:2, Ephesians 4:4-6)
The Holy Spirit of God is the presence of God living inside each follower of Christ (Romans 8:9-11). The Holy Spirit teaches and bears witness about Jesus (John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:7-15). The Spirit empowers those who follow Jesus in different forms of ministry (Acts 1:8, 1 Thessalonians 1:5, 1 Peter 1:12)
The inspired Word of God – “a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.” (Psalm 119:105) It is God’s revelation about Himself to humanity. (Numbers 23:19, Psalm 12:6, Proverbs 30:5, John 17:17, 2 Timothy 3:16). The Bible is the living Word of God, applicable to all time and is not only the measure and standard of truth, but truth itself (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12).
Humanity was created in the likeness of God and we are the dearly beloved of God. (Genesis 1:27, Genesis 5:1-2). We have rebelled against God through sin and separated ourselves from the glory of God (Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12) and therefore we are in need of saving grace of God made possible through Jesus Christ.
Salvation is a gift from God that can never be earned through good works or self-improvement, salvation is only given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, the redemption of our sin (John 1:12, John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Ephesians 1:7). Salvation is based on the work of Jesus on the cross where He sacrificially died bearing the sin and punishment of all humanity, paying the price required of sin for all those who believe in Him (Romans 3:23-25, Romans 5:6-9, Romans 6:23).
The church is the community of all true followers of Jesus Christ. The church is the body of Christ of which Jesus is the head (Ephesians 5:23) set on the mission given by Jesus to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, Ephesians 1:22-23). The body of Christ on earth, which exists to save the lost and edify the beleivers. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
Humanity was created for eternal existence with God. Jesus will return one day for those who have opened their lives to him. (Matthew 24:44, John 14:3, Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, Hebrews 9:28, Revelation 22:20)
Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 3:16)
SMALL BEGINNINGS
Brendan Hock
Pastor
ext. 101
Brendan experienced a call to serve God in full-time Christian ministry as a late teen. In response to this call, and to begin preparing himself for this task and responsibility, he entered college and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry in 2006. He then entered Seminary and received a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in 2012.
In his spare time, he enjoys reading, gardening, spending time with family, and biking. Dearest to his heart is his love for the local Church which he believes, when done right with Christ in the center, is still the hope for the world.
Brendan and his wife, Meagan, have two sons, Channing and Greyson. Both Brendan and Meagan were raised in Elizabethville, PA, and they are excited to be serving at Halifax Community Church.
Jesse Funk
Pastor of Family Ministries
ext. 102
Jesse is a 3rd generation pastor, after his father, Tim, and his paternal grandfather, Amos. He has served the church in various ways, most recently through his involvement in Adult and Youth Ministry at Chapel Church in York County, where he experienced his call to ministry.
He comes to HCC from a career as an Assessment Counselor in Behavioral Health. He has a particular passion for discipleship and seeing families and individuals grow with Christ as the foundation. He looks forward to encouraging the spiritual life development of parents and grandparents as they seek to guide the younger generation in the ways of Christ.
In his spare time, Jesse enjoys watching football and hockey, spending time with loved ones, and going to the driving range since he can't hit a 5-iron on an actual golf course if his life depended on it.
